I have not found a swap like this yet, I decided to create my own.
You will send to your partner 20 MEDIUM to LARGE Buttons.
(if you send teeny tiny buttons, smaller than 1/4 inch, please send 2 tiny ones for each regular sized button. example: 10 medium and 20 tiny ones). Note: Very large buttons still count as 1 button!

This is a good opportunity to get rid of some buttons that we do not like, and to gain some awesome new ones for crafts and sewing projects. Send vintage, wood, leather, hand painted, metal, shaped, or plastic. Flat back or shanks. Bubble wrap if you plan to send delicate or glass buttons. Please no toggles or snaps. ONLY BUTTONS please. :)

Any question, feel free to Message me. This is my first swap. I will angel if need be, but please please try to send out your items. It’s great to get things on time. Let your partner know if you’ll be late. Everyone is very sympathetic. We’ve all got other swaps too! This isn’t a very long swap because it doesn’t require any real crafting. You have til July 15th to send out your buttons. :)

Some Button Action this weekend

I had a lovely weekend off from home renovations. haha. :) So i decided to make some things from my vintage button collection. I had purchased many earring backs, ring bases, and hair/ brooch clips, and i wanted to put them to good use!

This is my disaster of a work area.

(i need a better space.. someday soon..)

and after mixing up some epoxy, I put together this ring. :)

I like it. a nice round brown button, with a pretty pearlized flower shaped button on top. I added some silver wire after the fact ( since the epoxy had oozed through the button holes).. thats a lesson.. add string or wire before epoxying…

It was super simple (after the epoxy set and they stayed put!) and it was really fun to make. I can’t wait to put together some more. I want more birthdays to come up so I can start making them for friends. :)

Sunday, I went to tea with Ian’s mother and sister, and my own mother and sister (for our mother’s bdays). We went to Charlotte’s Tea Room in Warwick, NY. It was so nice. if you are ever in the area, and want some nice tea in a beautiful house, (make a reservation) and stop in (and order the Big Red Sun tea, the Emperor’s New Salad, and the Cheesecake Petit fores, trust me! haha). It was a very nice time. :) OH, and I made my friend Rebecca some anchor earrings too. She asked if I wanted to take a photo, but I said nah.. but now I realize that I should’ve. Next time i see her I’ll snap one. :)

Enjoy the week!

New Things Need a Good Cleaning..

So about a year ago, I was given a nice big bag of vintage zippers. Some new-old stock (1963-1970), some modern, and some of various years that seemed to be cut out of clothing. All of which needed a cleaning!

So I began by putting the 75 or 80 zippers in 2 shoebox sized plastic bins. I soaked them in soap & water, (moving them around with my hands like a washing machine). Then I rinsed them out. I repeated that step a few times til the water ran semi-clear. Then, I just let them sit in a mixture of water, soap and detergent overnight. :)

they look like sea monsters.

extreme close up!

Before I left for work today, I “hung them up to dry”.. flattening them as I went. I figured they’d be easier to work with and just felt cleaner if they dried hung over my towel bar rather than crunched up in a plastic container….

That is about 4 layers deep of zippers!

Next up! A simple sweet find from Massachusetts. While looking for antique shops, we stopped to browse a garage sale. I realized during this trip that I didn’t have a neat old vintage jar to house my buttons (as every good seamstress should have)… so I snatched up this bad boy for $0.50. It took a while to get it open because the orange rubber seal had practically melted to the lid. I wonder how long this thing was closed for…

So once again, a nice wash with soap….

And left to soak overnight….

I can’t wait to organize the zippers when they are clean and dry. And I can’t wait to fill my new jar to the top with buttons! I’ve been gathering for quite a while and my collection has outgrown its little tin.. (AND I just bought some neat buttons off of eBay $ etsy). I hope they are delivered soon so I can transfer everyone to their new home. (until they are plucked, sewn and gifted, of course!)

Happy antiquing, searching and cleaning :)

p.s.- You KNOW you love my awesome crazy floral wallpaper. I do. ;)

Potholder, Tablerunner & 4 New Swaps!

So i finally finished my potholder. I really shouldn’t have posted it yet, because my partner could see it! She’s received it, and i don’t think that the surprise was spoiled. phew! sadly, i was in a rush to box it up and send it out that i forgot to take a final photo!

here is a bad cell picture of the “quilt-top” and the cupcake applique. Hand cut, and embroidered on the bottom right corner. :) i wanted a nice modern color palette without being too juvenile.

I used striped pink and white for the binding. It looked super cute. Maybe I’ll make one for myself one day. I also finally used one of my iron on labels! I had them made by a nice lady in Australia via etsy, but i haven’t used them yet. It looked mighty professional. I will make sure to post better and more photos on my next swap.

The swap I received was a gorgeous handmade quilted table runner by a great crafter! I can’t wait to find a place to use it. hopefully one day i get her assigned to make, and i can make her something i return. :)

While on the topic of new swaps, I joined Round 12! Craft a surprise for you partner. :) Same theme as last time. Pick something you are good at, and send it away to your assigned partner. I have a few ideas, but since partners were already assigned, I’m keeping them secret!

i also joined 2 other swaps, Folllow my Craft Blog, and Follow my Art Blog. These are email only swaps. You are assigned 5 people to email your link to. They check it out and see if they wanna follow you. 5 people were assigned to me as well, so receive 5 new blogs to check out. Its great for inspiration, and gaining new readers. Welcome all who have arrived from swap bot! :)

I also joined 2 MORE swaps! These will be my first 2 ATC swaps. (Artist Trading Cards) You create mini pieces of art, 2.5 in x 3.5 inches, in whatever style you want. It should showcase you, or the theme chosen. :) Mine are Alphabet ATCs, so the themes are “H is for…” and “I is for…”. they are mounted on thick card stock like real trading cards, and can be traded to other swappers or displayed on a wall!

I’m gonna need two good words that starts with I, and H…. :)

Let me know if you are playing along! Happy swapping!
